In Stari Grad there are famous cultural institutions and associations, some of wich have a century long tradition. The oldest association is Croatian Town Music, a society gathering local music enthusiasts, founded in 1876. Conductor of the orchestra is Luki Gamulin, and president of society is Dinko Šepić

Amateurish theatre "Petar Hektorović" exisists from 1893. This amateurish teatrical troop promotes comic expression. Their leader is Tomislav Alaupović.

Folk singers of St. Stevens church, some of wich are also members of Klapa "Garmica", traditional dalmatian singing group- are undoubtedly the most significant cultutral association in Stari Grad today. They preformed at almost all of the world s most prominent festivals of sacral and early music and recorded two CD. Their leader is Matko Franetović.

Cultural Center of Stari Grad is a cultural institution wich comprise Town libary ( founded in 1992, located in a historical building "Čitovnica"- Croatian Home, libary found contains about 10 000 books.
In Biankini Palace, a headquarters f the centre, there is a Gallery "Juraj Plančić" ( founded in 1963, contains works of a local painter J. Plančić and other eminent local and national artist from second half of the 20th century), perminent exhibition "Faros-Antique Stari Grad" (archeological findings of several decades long protective arheological resarsh), memorial "Captain s Chamber" (contains object from the 19th century- a period of local nautical growth), and permanent exbition "Antique Shipwreck" ( contains remains of an antique gallery cargo from 3th century). Cultural centre has a substantial publishing activity and takes care of a local monumental heritage. Director of the centre is Aldo Čavić.

Music school "Toma Cecchini" works as a branch of Music school "Josip Hatze" in Split. The school is located in Biankini Palace where professors Luki Gamulin and Ivana Majić provide children formal trumpet and piano lessons.

In Stari Grad s elementary school "Petar Hektorović" is a folk-dance group (under guidance of Perica Mileta). In the town there is also a Dance studio (instructor is Sonja Del) and indoor and outdoor cinema.

During summer there are numerous artistic and cultural workshop like: "Faros-Antique Culture of Croatian Mediteranean" (classical languages and culture, instructor is Bruna K.Makvić), arheological workshop of ceramic and mozaic ( restauration under guidance of Jasna Jeličić Radonić), Summer school for open singing ( instructor, Maja Sunara Biankini), Pippetry workshop ( instrutor, Vanda Šestak), Creative parasol, painting workshop for children under the guidance of Ljiljana Tanay.

Cultural summer in Stari Grad, known as "HIC Faros HIC Ars" is also organized during the summer season.
